Inclement Weather Assessment and Notification Process
During the school year there will be times when our school locations will need to be closed due to an emergency or inclement weather. Many areas of consideration are taken when making the decision to close school or make changes in event schedules. The following procedures are used to provide us with ample information for the decision process:
District administrators will assess weather, road and/or other information.
Reports, as necessary, will be obtained from the National Weather Service, Emergency Preparedness Center, County Road Maintenance, the State Highway Department, county and city law enforcement offices.
Reports will be analyzed, and a decision will be made by 5:30 AM if schools are to be closed for the full day or delayed in the morning. The decision needs to be made early in order to make transportation arrangements. Other closings due to factors arising during a school day will be made in a timely manner so that children can be safely transported home.
The decision will be announced by 6:00 AM and we will use our AlertNow message system to communicate with you and we will also display or announce on the following television and radio stations:
WZZQ Radio: 104.3 FM or 1500 AM – Gaffney
WFGN Radio: 1180 AM – Gaffney
WOLT Radio: Spartanburg
WSPA – TV – Ch. 7 – Spartanburg
WYFF – TV – Ch. 4 – Greenville
WLOS – TV – Ch. 13 – Asheville
WHNS – TV – Fox Ch. 21 – Greenville
Please do not call school officials or radio or television stations. It is imperative that these telephone lines remain open in case of emergency.
Every reasonable precaution will be taken to assure students’ safety and welfare. Decisions regarding school schedule changes are made only after careful consideration of all information available to us and always with the safety of children in mind.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this process.
